Greetings, I have a big announcement today.
I have decided to participate in this year’s NaNoWriMo. For those who are not aware of what this is about, NaNoWriMo aka National Novel Writing Month is an annual writing event taking place every November. Writers from all over the world will attempt to finish a 50,000 words novel in one short month. The catch is, the novel has to be a brand new idea, planning beforehand is possible but cheating is no-no-no.
This basically means that every day, writers will have to pitch in 1,700 words to meet the deadline. Just to put it into perspective, a normal chapter in my ongoing White Destiny project is circa 2,200 words and it takes me roughly a month to finish one chapter (I’m not proud of my writing speed at all).
So does this imply I’m doomed to fail from the get-go? Well, yes, admittedly yes…but I’ll try anyway. The saving grace here is that I won’t have to invest much time in world-building and researches for this project since it has no fantasy or sci-fi element whatsoever and most of its scenes will take place either in a school or on the street.
In keeping with NaNoWriMo’s tradition, I have come up with the idea from scratch; literally, on Monday aka 4 days before the crunch because I forgot about NaNoWriMo and Youtube’s algorithm only reminded me of it thanks to “Save the cat” virtual write-in. And…I admit…the cat thing from this project is due to the said virtual write-in…
Anyway…more about the old tailless. Here’s a brief summary:
The plot revolves around an old mob boss who was on the run after a youngling in his syndicate staged a coup. He barely escaped with his life but at the cost of his trusted aides (ergo, like a cat losing its tail). He took up the role of a substitute high school teacher while planning his next move. The only school that accepted him was the one plagued with delinquent and gang problems where teachers got shivved all the time.
The gangs in the school fought among themselves, against the student council, against the teachers and gangs from other schools for influence over the whole district. But they were mere children compared to the real criminal syndicate he once managed. Throughout the novel, the old mob boss would use his wits and experiences to avoid detections, recruit new aides, and prove that this old tailless can still bare his claws.
The book cover for the novel is up above. The novel will be updated on this blog daily for the duration of NaNoWriMo. It’s going to be messy as I’ll not have time to quell all the plot holes and typos. But hey, that’s the idea!
Oh, btw. If anyone wants to add me on NaNoWriMo, my username over there is Lorenz Raymond.
